Alma’s Zen Garden design was created after an afternoon visit to Shoya House situated in beautiful Zen Gardens in San Marino, CA. The house was originally built around 1700 and was the center of village life in Marugame, Japan.
The entire structure was shipped to Southern California in 1904 and acquired by Henry Huntington to be reconstructed on a 2 acre site rich with Japanese gardens and ponds.
The Zen Garden design is meant to capture the quintessential beauty and energy felt while sitting quietly in the gardens of Shoya House.
